Sonny Landreth 09/14/2008

As I recall, Penni P.M. first floated the idea of getting Sonny Landreth to play at newly-opened Papa Mojo’s Roadhouse in Durham early in 2008. Owner Mel Melton had played with Sonny years ago; still, it seemed like wishful thinking that we’d ever actually see him in that 100-seat room. After Sonny’s May 4 performance at Rock ‘n’ Bowl in New Orleans, at the end of Jazz Fest 2008, Penni talked with him and mentioned the idea. Sonny said he had a message to call Mel and wondered if that might be what it was about. A couple weeks later we learned that Sonny was booked to play June 8. Perhaps more incredibly, he returned just 3 months later, on September 14 (and again recently, 08/11/13 – all great shows).
