Carrboro Music Festival September 23 & 24

The 20th annual Carrboro Music Festival is this weekend. The traditional Sunday event was expanded to 2 days in 2014, and that continues this year.

The Festival started in 1998 as part of the French celebration known as Fête de la Musique, a free festival of music celebrated worldwide on the summer solstice. In 2002, Carrboro’s celebration of “The Fête” was moved to the last Sunday in September and became the Carrboro Music Festival. Showcasing Triangle-area performers and the varied musical styles they represent, the Festival is a coordinated effort of the Carrboro Recreation & Parks Department and the Carrboro Music Festival Planning Committee, and is supported by the Carrboro Tourism Development Authority. All performers donate their talents to foster a strong sense of community and to expose their music to a wide audience.

On Saturday, the 2017 event kicks off at 1 pm with 3 bands at Carrboro Town Commons. Music continues at 8:30 pm with a free, ticketed show at Cat’s Cradle.

Sunday the 24th, music starts at 1 pm and runs through the evening at venues throughout downtown Carrboro.

In all, 200 performing acts will play at 29 indoor and outdoor venues. And it’s all free. Park & Ride shuttle runs from Carrboro Plaza.
