N.O. Jazz Fest Announces 2017 Lineup

Jazz Fest parade logoThe New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival has released the day-by-day list of performers for this year’s event. Headliners include Stevie Wonder, Tom Petty, Dave Matthews,Trey Anastasio, Wilco, Lorde, Widespread Panic and Harry Connick, Jr.  Among the other big names are Trombone Shorty, Rhiannon Giddens, Alabama Shakes, Snoop Dogg, Kings of Leon, Buddy Guy, George Benson and Earth, Wind & Fire.  Jazz Fest mainstays returning in 2017 include Dr. John, The Meters, Sonny Landreth, Marcia Ball, Anders Osborne, Irma Thomas, Aaron Neville and Tab Benoit. For real jazz fans, Terence Blanchard, Ellis Marsalis, Jason Marsalis, Kenny Barron and Dr. Michael White are a sampling of this year’s performers.  Also featured are tributes to Pete Fountain, Buckwheat Zydeco and Jo “Cool” Davis, who passed away in 2016, and a salute to Louis Armstrong.

Of special note this year, Jazz Fest honors New Orleans’ deep historical connections with Cuba by hosting the largest celebration of Cuban culture in the U.S. since the 1950s, themed Cuba Comes to Jazz Fest.  Over 150 Cuban artists are invited, most of whom will be in the U.S. for the first time.

Opening weekend for Jazz Fest at the New Orleans Fair Grounds is April 28-30, with the traditionally-longer second weekend running from May 4-7.
